Abstract:

In this investigation I wish to obtain information on common species of ornamental ferns that could be found on the market, in particular what they are and how they are genetically related, and use this information to assess the number of different species of ferns that are available for customers. I’d like to achieve this by first collecting fern samples from Luzhi Flower-and-Bird Market and then use DNA barcoding to analyse their genetic makeup to see how they are related to each other and other plant species with known DNA sequences, thus obtaining more knowledge about taxonomic identifications and contributing to modern ornamental plant species research and horticulture practices.
